Dr. Hammond is triple board certified in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and dermatopathology. His immediate prior position was the medical director and head of dermatopathology at a regional diagnostic laboratory in South Carolina. He received his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland. He completed his residency training in Boston University Medical Center where he served as chief resident in both anatomical and clinical pathology. He completed his fellowship at the renowned Ackerman Academy of Dermatopathology in New York City. He is the recipient of multiple national awards for both academic achievement and leadership. Dr. Hammond has authored numerous publications and has presented at national and international meetings. His specialty interests include melanocytic and non-melanocytic skin cancers as well as inflammatory skin disorders. In addition, Dr. Hammond is one of the few Medical Doctors in the United States practicing reflectance confocal microscopy for the non-invasive diagnosis of cutaneous tumors. He has several leadership and teaching positions in this nascent field and has been spotlighted in national media. He is an advocate of public health education and has written articles promoting understanding of pathology services in consumer media.
