Dr. Carmen Traywick is the visionary founder and owner of May River Dermatology, bringing a deep commitment to excellence in skin cancer detection and treatment to the SC Lowcountry. This focus is rooted in an impressive academic history, beginning with her graduation Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Emory University. This legacy of achievement started at Oxford College of Emory University, where she was honored as a Dean’s Scholar and finished first in her class.
With over 20 years of experience in the field, Dr. Traywick recognized the critical need for a patient-centric model that prioritizes quality outcomes and ethical practice, particularly within the challenging space of Medical and Surgical Dermatology. Her commitment to research excellence is evidenced by the American Federation for Aging Research Medical Student Scholar fellowship and her published work in peer-reviewed journals.
Education, Teaching, and Community Impact: Dr. Traywick completed her Dermatology Residency and PGY-1 Transitional Residency at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, where she also earned her MD degree. Beyond clinical care, she has made a profound public health impact by obtaining grants for shade structures for local private and public schools, providing vital sun safety for elementary through high school students. She also volunteers at local high schools, teaching pre-health students about wounds and Dermatology, in addition to teaching medical students essential suturing skills.
Personal Life & Community Leadership: Dr. Traywick’s commitment extends deep into the local community: she served on the Cross Schools Board for five years, contributing to a near doubling of its enrollment. She and her husband, Bernie Traywick, who serves as the CEO of the company, live in the Lowcountry and are raising their three daughters. This dedication to God, family, education, and public health drives her mission to ensure the highest quality of healthcare for the region.
